That mission was on full display during The Art of the Taper, one of our most successful educational classes to date.
Hosted inside Stylers Social Club — our event, education, and private event venue located inside World Class Stylers — the class welcomed attendees from across Northern California, including Sacramento, Roseville, Rancho Cordova, Yuba City, the Bay Area, and surrounding communities.
The class attracted licensed barbers, barber college students, aspiring professionals, and even individuals who simply wanted to improve the quality of the haircuts they provide for their families.
The morning began with a one-hour Look & Learn session where attendees observed veteran barbers Lonnie Horne and Paris Moore demonstrate professional taper techniques while explaining their thought process, clipper control, blending techniques, detail work, and how they approach different haircut situations.
After the demonstration, participants transitioned into a two-hour hands-on workshop where each attendee worked on a live model while receiving personal guidance, coaching, and feedback throughout the haircut.
The hands-on experience gave attendees the opportunity to immediately apply what they had learned while building confidence in a supportive learning environment.
One of the most rewarding parts of the day was seeing the diversity of the room.
Some attendees had been licensed for years. Others were currently enrolled in barber college. One attendee was a husband and father who has transformed his garage into a small home barbershop where he proudly cuts his two sons' hair and his wife's hair. His commitment to learning served as a reminder that education isn't limited to licensed professionals — it's for anyone passionate about improving their craft.
By the end of the afternoon, attendees left with new techniques, greater confidence, fresh perspectives, and excitement to apply what they had learned behind the chair.
As a Black-owned Sacramento barbershop and salon, World Class remains committed to helping elevate the barber and beauty industry through quality education, mentorship, collaboration, and community.
Stylers Social Club was created to be more than an event venue. It is a place where people come together for educational classes, networking, social events, private events, and opportunities that help individuals grow both personally and professionally.
The Art of the Taper was another reminder that when education, community, and passion come together, everyone wins.
“I came to the class hoping to make my tapers cleaner and learn how experienced barbers approach their work. One of the biggest takeaways for me was seeing everyone's thought process and learning different starting points, especially around the lineup and ear area. Being able to pick their brains and see different techniques gave me a lot more confidence moving forward.”
“I started cutting hair at the kitchen table, then in the living room, and now I've built a little garage barbershop with a real barber chair. I mainly cut my two sons' hair and my wife's hair, so I came here to sharpen my skills. Learning different techniques and understanding how to work with different hair textures gave me exactly what I was hoping to gain from this class.”
“I've been licensed since 2006, but for years I struggled trying to teach myself. Once you get your license, this industry can feel like sink or swim. Today gave me something I'd been missing — hands-on guidance, different perspectives, and the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals. I had honestly thought about walking away from barbering several times, but after this class I'm motivated to keep going.”
“This class gave me a tremendous amount of confidence. I walked away with a much better understanding of high, medium, and low tapers, and I'm excited to start applying these techniques with my clients.”
